Founded in 2001, Studio 161 was the brand chosen by various top recording artistes in Trinidad and Tobago for their recording,mixing and re-mixing needs. Our client listing and the hit songs they recorded and produced at our fully digital recording facility spans all genres of music and includes David Rudder and Mungal Patasar Full Length Albums being recorded in our room, to hits like the Monster Success Soca Warriors by Maximus Dan.

In 2005, Studio 161 began delivering the first N.E.C. certified course in Sound Engineering in Trinidad and Tobago. Developed by Basillai Entertainment, the Level 1 program has been used to train talented musicians and engineers in the correct use of digital recording equipment and has also been used to train staff operating in the following performance venues:

  • Naparima Bowl,
  • N.A.L.I.S.
  • Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force,
  • Central Bank Auditorium,
  • Rudranath Caplideo Learning Resource Centre
Further works are being conducted on the current curriculum to keep the content current and a new round of training is being proposed for various Certified Locations across T&T.
As the developers of this program, we are involved in the development of curriculum standards for National Training Agency ,are also members of the Sector Advisory Committee, consulting on the Performing Arts and Culture as an Industry in Trinidad and Tobago, and the Export Education Committee of The Trinidad and Tobago Coalition of Services Industries. (TTCSI)
This program has been accepted as the entry level requirement for admission into the UTT Sound Technology Program and as such, we will be offering this program through approved studios across Trinidad and Tobago to meet the demand.
We are currently undergoing the process of establishing this structure for courses to begin for the January – June 2014 Semester.
This program will cover a minimum of 240 contact hours which will represent a mix of theory and in studio sessions. The program will be externally assessed by a team of industry experts and will target persons with beginner level experience operating recording and /or editing hardware and software, to persons with no experience at all.
The graduates of the Level One certificate will be considered an “Assistant Sound Engineer” and will be successfully be able to perform the various tasks assigned to them, with supervision.
Independent performance of these duties in the production environment is not a minimum requirement to successfully obtain this certificate.
