Coming full circle, in the early 2000’s a partnership opportunity brought Basil back into the studio with the creation of Studio 161. Located in Woodbrook POS, the studio went on to live at various locations over the nine years of its life, and was home to many hit recordings, familiar productions and audio for advertising campaigns.

Basil had the honour of working on, or having the studio play host to various productions, including the Soca Warriors hit from Maximus Dan used as the them song for the nations World Cup aspirations, albums by Mungal Patasar and David Rudder and scores of recordings from Parang to Soca, Dancehall and spoken word.Ultimately this became the birthplace of the idea for a nationally recognised Sound Engineering Training Programme.

Sample NEC / Basillai Entertainment Certificate

In 2005, the National Examinations Council approved a curriculum, developed after his time in the studio as both a Recording Engineer and studio manager. The programme still holds certification of NEC level 1, with further programmes under development.

Identifying the limitations of the programme, Basil sought to have further training developed in the field, with hope of specialised training in Audio for Video, Recording, Live Performance and others. These were not nationally recognised courses and therefore led to his addition to the standards committees of the NTA (National Training Agency) to develop standards in these areas. Currently, Basil chairs two committees on the development of standards for advanced training in Sound Engineering and Video Production.
